Eda And was born in December 1988 as a child of a musician family in Izmir, Turkey. She took her first piano lessons from her mother at age 8 and had her first jazz experience with her bassist father, Kürşat And. She began her piano studies at Dokuz Eylül University Izmir State Conservatory in 2003 and graduated from its piano department in 2007. During her piano studies, she attended classical piano masterclasses and workshops of Pavel Gililov at Mozarteum Summer Academy in Salzburg.
After her classical piano studies, Eda focused on Jazz music and composing. She played at the 13th Izmir & Europe Jazz Festival, took masterclasses from Italia / Siena Jazz Academy Professors in Izmir. She took composition lessons from Mehmet Aktug between 2007-08.
In 2008, she composed her first Piano concerto “Mi Re La” and performed her work with Izmir State Symphony Orchestra. After her performance she was invited to Germany to play her piano concerto again with Bremen International Youth Symphony Orchestra in Bremen.
In 2009 she was accepted to study classical composition with Prof. Dr. Wolfgang-Andreas Schultz in ‘’Hochschule für Musik und Theater’’ Hamburg. During her composition studies, she was awarded many scholarships such as “Film Sound Hamburg” workshops. In 2011, she was also awarded with Milena&Hermann Ebel Prize. in 2013 she was invited to South America to play her compositions with Rodolfo Laruta Bigband in Bolivia and Chile. Between September 2015 and October 2016, she was one of the Oscar-Vera Ritter Scholarship winners.
In 2014, she played a Tribute concert to ‘’Kürsat And’’ at the 21st Izmir European Jazz Festival with her jazz trio and the performance was shown on Turkish state TV channel, TRT. She won the second prize with her musician sister Duru And at the 50. Anniversary of TRT Altin Anten Pop Music Composition Competition. In 2014, she started her Master’s Degree studies in Jazz Composition with Prof. Wolf Kerschek. She played her own compositions with Hamburger Hochschul-Bigband at Elbjazz Festival in 2015. As her final Master’s Degree project, she recorded her big band compositions with Nord-Deutscher Rundfunk Bigband (NDR Bigband) and graduated from this department in 2016. She composed many pieces for solo, duo instruments, quartet, ensemble, symphony orchestra, jazz trio, pop orchestra, big band and jazz choir. All of her works were performed.
Eda And is still living in Hamburg and continuing her music projects mostly in Germany and Turkey.
